This method is the “gold standard” for the instrumental diagnosis of obstructive sleep apnea syndrome.
With polysomnography, the patient spends the night in a sleep center (sleep laboratory) with a polysomnograph device attached to it. In this case, the following parameters are recorded:
- Electroencephalogram
- Electrooculogram
- Electromyogram
- Electrocardiogram
- Lower limb movements
- Volume and speed of nasal airflow
- Snore
- Body position
- Movement of the chest and abdominal wall during the act of breathing
- Saturation – the degree of saturation of arterial blood with oxygen
Thanks to the registration of the above parameters, it is possible to diagnose with a high percentage of accuracy, determine the type of apnea, its severity, analyze the effectiveness of sleep disorders therapy, and also identify many disorders that occur or worsen during sleep.
Polysomnography is an absolutely painless, safe diagnostic procedure.
At the DMC clinic, polysomnography is performed using modern European equipment that allows high-quality diagnostics of sleep disorders – SomnoLab 2 (PSG) (Loewenstein Medical/Weinmann, Germany).
Polysomnographic study (PSGS)
This is a mandatory instrumental examination necessary for an accurate diagnosis of the type and severity of sleep disorders.
The essence of PSGS is continuous registration and subsequent computer analysis of the performance of your organs during a night’s sleep. It is carried out using devices – polysomnographs. The PSGS installation consists of sensors for receiving information from the organs and a recording device connected to the sensors. In preparation for the procedure, the sleep therapist will attach the sensors to your head, chest, and limbs and connect them to the recorder, and then start the installation. During the night you will sleep, and the apparatus will record the work of your brain, heart, breathing, muscle tone, etc.
The advantage of our PSGS installation is mobility – you can freely turn in bed, get up or walk
