Anti-embolism stockings specifically designed to prevent thromboemblic prophylaxis and for clinical and hospital use before, during and after surgical intervention. The blood flows back to the heart thanks to four “pumps”: the foot pump, the calf muscle pump, the thoracic pump, and the cardiac pump. When one or more of these pumps do not work properly, venous blood becomes stagnant in the legs and may cause a considerable reduction in blood circulation speed, tendency to venous thrombosis, and possible thromboembolism. Furthermore, if venous circulation is already damaged due to varicose veins, the risk of thrombosis considerably increases. Indeed, thromboembolism is the third cause of cardiovascular death, after heart attack and stroke.
